Dear ALL,

As we move forward to the new information age, knowledge and awareness on Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is imperative and inevitable. As such, we Young Engineers from Graduate & Student Section - The Young Engineers Section of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM G&S-YES) have lined up a talk on The Evolution of Mobile Communications: 0G to 4G jointly organised with IET YMS for the benefits of all. We are pleased to invite all of you to participate in this talk with the details as follow:

SYNOPSIS:
The mobile communications technology, especially the mobile phones has proven to be one of the most outstanding technological and commercial achievements of the last century. The mobile communications has rapidly progressed from a minority, specialized item to virtually an essential commodity for both business and leisure use. This presentation will explore the evolution of mobile communication technologies by looking from the historical perspective, potential market and possible future long term evolution (LTE) as declared by the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP), an international consortium for the technical development of the new generation for mobile communications. Also, the presentation will discuss the expectation of the services in the Fourth Generation of mobile communication systems (4G), from the perspective of researchers and consumers.

BIODATA OF SPEAKER:
C.F. Kwong completed his studies in B.Eng (Hons) Electrical & Electronic Engineering, University of Hertfordshire, UK in 2001 with First Class Honours and received a scholarship from the University of Bradford, UK to read MSc in Personal, Mobile & Satellite Communications where he graduated with a Distinction. He is currently a Senior Lecturer and the Head of Programme at the Faculty of Engineering & Technology, INTI International University College, Malaysia. He is also the Head of Satellite & Mobile Group (SMG) in the same University and his research interest includes the cross layer protocols and the mobility management for the hybrid terrestrial and satellite communication networks.

    Annual General Meeting 2007


    IEM G&S Section’s 37th Annual General Meeting was held successfully on 30th June 2007 at 2nd Floor, Bangunan Ingenieur, IEM. About 37 members comprising of 21 Graduates, 5 Students, 2 Corporate Members and 9 non-members attended this year‘s AGM. Welcoming Speech was given by the current chairman, Engr. Yau Chau Fong. He welcomed members and explained the G&S committee structure and some of the highlights of activities for the previous session such as jointly-organized courses with the Technical Divisions, social activities, community service projects, YEAFEO and visit to branches.

    The 36th Annual Report and the Financial Report for ending 31st March 2007 were presented by then Hon. Secretary cum Treasurer, Engr. Wong Chee Fui. The section’s Immediate Past Chairman, Engr. Suresh Yegambaram announced the election results of the section. Below is the new line up of the section for the session 2007/2008:

    There was still one General Member position vacant at the closing of AGM. Chairman, Engr. Yau Chau Fong delivered his welcoming speech and invited all the members to upcoming IEM G&S Annual Charity Dinner and Dance 2007 which will be held at Laksamana Ballroom, Armada Hotel, Petaling Jaya on 18th August 2007. Chairman also officially announced that IEM G&S has changed the name to Young Engineers Section which thereinafter will be known as IEM G&S – YES.






    The meeting was adjourned at 4.12pm before proceeding to the Term End Party at Maharaj Restaurant, Petaling Jaya at 5pm.
