Blood Donation Drive by IEM-YES Sarawak Branch

Hi everyone! Our friends from IEM-YES Sarawak Branch will be having a Blood Donation drive.

The objectives of this event are:

1) To create a wider awareness of the importance of voluntary blood donation.

2) To encourage more engineers and public to become regular blood donors.

3) To promote and increase the awareness of public on the existence of IEM and YES.

IEM YES Gala Dinner 2013

Young Engineers Section (YES), of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia held it's IEM YES Gala Dinner 2013 on the 29th June 2013 at the Grand Ballroom, Summit Hotel, USJ. This was first dinner of this kind organized by YES where it coincided with the IEM YES National Summit 2013 and the 2nd Engineering Students National Summit 2013 where YES KL, was the host for this year together with IEM SIR UNITEN Student Section, IEM UiTM Student Section and IEM UTAR Student Section.

The dinner was the focal point as the Closing Ceremony for IEM YES National Summit and also Official Launching of YES Corporate Video. The dinner was inaugurated by Yang Berusaha Ir. Choo Kok Beng, IEM President, accompanied by Yang Berbahagia Dato’ Ir. Lim Chow Hock, IEM Deputy President together with IEM Executive Committee Members and Council Members. The IEM YES National Summit 2013 brought all YES branches together in KL for branch meeting, team building and technical visits, with a similar role for 2^nd Engineering Students National Summit where the representatives of all IEM Student Sections from various engineering universities around the county were gathered for the similar purpose, that is to improvise the young engineering fraternity in the country.

Welcoming Speech by YES Chairman, Engr. Mah Way Sheng

During the welcoming speech, YES Chairman, Engr. Mah Way Sheng highlighted all the major achievements by YES  and how the section evolved from a small section during its establishment to a strong 18, 000 over members consisting young engineers and engineering students. Chairman also emphasized the need of connecting the young engineering in the nation to create a bigger and closer engineering community for the betterment of the society. Besides having the theme for this year’s national summit and also the YES financial year to be “Connecting Young Engineers”, chairman also thanked the organizing committee and also the leaders of all branches to be part of the activities and worked hard for the national summit.

The event then proceeded with the National Summit Closing Speech by IEM President, Ir. Choo Kok Beng, who congratulated YES on organizing IEM YES National Summit 2013 and proceed with IEM YES Gala Dinner 2013 with the theme of “Rock-n-Roll”, which was unique in IEM. He then continued on emphasizing the importance of young engineers to evolve to become one of the frontiers of IEM in terms of connecting the younger generation and encourage them to be part of the one of the biggest professional learned society in Malaysia, IEM. He concluded his speech on requesting YES to work hand in hand with IEM on realizing the vision and mission of the institution.

Immediately after the speech and closing ceremony, the official YES Corporate Video was launched and played for the first time, where this was part of YES’s effort on reaching the younger generation and promoting YES and IEM in an advanced medium. The video summarizes the vision and mission of YES and the major activities organized.

Following that, the IEM President accompanied by Deputy President conferred IEM Young Engineer 2012/2013 awards to two recipients, Engr. Ngeow Yen Wan, Past Chairman of YES KL and Engr. Catherine Sim Siew Ping, Past Chairman of YES Penang, both for their outstanding achievement in their respective field of expertise and their active involvement in IEM

Besides that, souvenirs to the branches representatives and also student section were given as token of appreciation for their commitment attending YES National Summit 2013. In addition to that, souvenirs were also presented to the YES Committee who served in the 2012/2013 Session. Appointment letters were also presented to the newly appointed YES 2013/2014 Session Committee Members towards the end of the dinner

IEM Young Engineer Awards Recipients

Special presentation were performed by IEM UTAR (KL) Student Section's Acapella Group who got the attention of the all the guests and YES KL too performed for the closing song for the dinner. The organizing committee would like to express our sincere appreciation to the IEM President, Deputy President, Executive Committee Members, Council Members, Valued Table Donors namely MEI Consultants Sdn Bhd, G&P Consultants Sdn Bhd, Sepakat Setia Perunding, Khairi Consult Sdn Bhd and to all the respected guests. The committee too expresses their congratulatory for all award winners for the night. YES rocked it again!!!

The 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Young Engineers Section (YES)

The 43rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Young Engineers Section was held on 29^th June 2013, 2.30pm in Auditorium Tan Sri Prof, Chin Fung Kee, Wisma IEM in accordance with the IEM Graduate and Student Section Bylaws and Regulations.

By 2.30pm, the Chairman, Engr. Mah Way Sheng conducted the meeting after confirming the quorum had been fulfilled by an opening speech. In his opening speech, Engr. Mah highlighted the section's achievements and sends his deepest gratitude to the committees and volunteers of the session 2012/2013 besides welcoming the Chairman and the committees of the Young Engineers Section of the other branches. There's no doubt that their attendance was a great addition to the meeting.

The meeting continued with the presentation of the Annual Report and Financial Statement by the Honorary Secretary/Treasurer, Ir. Lee Cheng Pay. In his presentation, various activities which was in line with the mission of the Young Engineer Section was reported. Ir. Lee presented the financial report which showed that the Financial Section of the Young Engineers Section is in good condition.

 

There were two matters raised in the meeting. One of it was a proposal to revise the financial year end and the other was to revise the activities reporting year end to coincide with IEM Financial and Activities report. This proposal was accepted by the members in the meeting. 

With no other matters arising, the Chairman of Session 2012/2013 announced the dissolved of the Committees of Session 2012/2013 and handed the floor to the election officer. The election officer presented the result of office Bearers for Session 2013/2014 and the line-up are as follows:
