Technical Visit to Lafarge’s Construction Development Lab (CDL) 

On 9th December 2014, IEM YES organized a technical visit to Lafarge’s Construction Development Lab (CDL) at Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Lafarge Group is the world leader in building material and major player in the cement aggregates and concrete industries. Lafarge’s CDL is the sixth in the world and first in Southeast Asia aim to promote construction efficiency by adapting innovative solution to better meet Malaysia construction and building needs. The CDL houses three (3) labs, - a cement, a concrete and an aggregates lab, with state-of-the-art testing equipment for quality control and assurance of its products. It also has an open testing space for prototypes and demonstrations of new systems and structures.  
The technical visit started promptly at 9.30 a.m. with a warm welcome and introduction speech by Ms. Wong Ai Ming from Lafarge. This is followed by a safety briefing by safety officer of Lafarge, En. Zaini.  

           Next, Ms. Wong Ai Ming presented on the CDL and Lafarge innovation solution. She shared the Lafarge’s innovative solutions in cement and concrete and how it can improve the overall construction environment.  Lafarge’s sustainable solution for better cities such as PHOENIX provide long durability and lower CO2 emission, Hydromedia consist of water management, Agilia with better productivity and so on so fore. Some of the legacy of Lafarge in Malaysia includes Petronas Twin Towers, KL Tower, KLIA, KLIA 2 and SMART Tunnel.
The participants were then split into two groups before visiting the CDL lab of cement, concrete and aggregate lab, showcase car park and open testing area. During the lab visit, have the chance to see the showcase of Hypermedia and Agilia in the car park, cement durability test, and methylene blue value test to test the geometrical properties of aggregates and how the self-compacting product,  Agilia can improve productivity.
After the lab visit, representative of IEM YES KL, Engr. Tang Jun Huat thanked Lafarge for hosting the visit and presented its representatives with a token of appreciation. The technical visit ended at noon and it was a fruitful and informative visit for all the participant.
