It's another great outing by IEM G&S members to another charity home. This time is the House of Joy kids lunch gathering, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration. There are about 60 boys and girls from the home turned out for this gathering. G&S was represented by 15 members.

The event kicked off with the lunch..Food was great and all the boys and girls were really disciplined to queue for the food served by our dedicated G&S members. After an hour, we took a quick tour around the home and was briefed by the caretaker, Ms.Lesley on the home condition and she shared some precious experiences in bringing up these kids. From there, we were really appreciate what they have done and sacrifice in upbringing these kids for the past 10 years.

Last session was the enjoyable part, the game session. It was fully conducted by the kids and G&S members, although much older than rest of them, took part and had a wonderful and unforgettable session with them. There are no PS2, computer games or even board games, but the simple games they thought of is good enough to make everyone had a great evening together..In short, that's the best moment when you watch the childrens' laughter and happiness during the get-together session....Of course, they enjoyed our companies too..

This is their sleeping room....see....how lucky we are

Group photo with all the professionals

For the very first time as part of our efforts this session to network with other fellow young professionals...It's a successful social event attended by almost 100 professionals. Amongst them are:
-accountants
-architects
-chemists (from IKM)
-doctors
-engineers
-lawyers
-pharmacists (fromMPA)
-town planners
-veterinarians (from VAM)
-secretaries (from MAICSA)

and University of Malaya students as volunteers

The crowds started to fill up the restaurant at 630pm. After registration, they mingled around with different professionals and showed business cards during their interactions. Soon the restaurant were getting into party atmosphere. Everybody enjoyed chatting with each other very much.

The dinner started at 8pm and proceeded with introduction of every professionals by each body's representative. The picture shown beside is that our chairman, Engr Yau Chau Fong is giving speech.

The event was then proceeded with games, Taboo where all professionals are separated into groups. We are honoured to have Mr Richard, the owner of the restaurant to assist us in the game part as he sponsored a few prizes to the participants in the dressing of costume.

The event hadn't ended yet...We proceeded our excited spirit to Red Box (Karaoke) after the event :).

Indeniably, it is a highly applauded event among the attentees and hopefully we may have the similar events in future which aim in bonding with other young professionals' groups.

A Talk by Mr Peter Hicks-Talk on " What stop you from achieving your DREAM "

Blogged by Yoke Mei

Date : 26 Jan 2007 (Friday)
Time : 9am to 10.30 am (refreshment will be served at 10.30 am)
Venue : IEM conference Hall
Speaker : Mr Peter Hicks, Australia

Find out what stops people from achieving their dreams in life and how to break the habit!!

The speaker, Peter Hicks has had exposure on a relationship level with leaders of both government and private industry. He is an exceptional "people person" with broad marketing, fiscal and CEO experience. He is an experienced "agent of change".

The title grabs my attention most to attend the talk in the early morning. I went for the talk together with the other friends from University Malaya who are members of ASHRAE. It's a joint event with the body. The speaker arrived earlier than the stipulated time so we manage to talk to him before the talk started. We find that he's an interesting speaker who would not follow the old trend...speak according to the slides. Instead, he shared the experiences he encountered in his working life with the audience and interact with the rest of us to get feed back and to keep us awake :). I like the part when he expose the interview criteria like the question would be most probably asked by the interviewer during the interview. We believe that Mr Peter has been living in Malaysia for quite some time coz he knows our culture and living well so he would try to tolerate with us during his talk in order to make us understand what he's trying to convey.

The pictures shown that Mr Peter is trying to explain human brain phenomena in which there is 90% of our brain is in subconcious condition and the 10% proportion in concious which means ---subconcious holds your back in your daily life.

A group photo taken before Mr Peter left. Obviously, Mr Peter is the 4th counting from the left.

An utmost gratitude to Mr Peter for his effort in his talk.

There are several quotes from him to be pondered---
" We are today is what we thought of yesterday",
" You are a victim of your past, unless you change it",
"Don't bite off any you can chew, be happy with what you have" etc.

We learned a lot from it.
