Buka Puasa Gathering




Yeah! yet another Buka Puasa gathering! Right...how can one miss out the delicious delicacy during Buka Puasa period. Seriously, one really need a good company to munch those lots of food. The excitement, the thrill and a little chat and lots of laughters...what can be better?

As an alternative to buka puasa at home, one could also do so at restaurant. For the month of Ramadan, many places hold buka puasa buffets. The buffets usually offer a wide and tantalising selection of food. The Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Young Engineer Section had their buka puasa on 28th September 2007 at Big Plate Restaurant, Kampung Melayu Subang. During this time around, it's just another great gathering for everyone during this festive season. A total of 12 members participated in the event with the mixture of YES committees and YES members.

Community Service Project


The Institution of Engineers Malaysia, Young Engineer Section is a based non profit organization with the modest goal of touching the lives of people throughout the communities we serve. Our architecture profession has an ethical responsibility to help improve living condition for the poor and the disadvantaged.

Community project was held from 10th August 2007 to 20th August 2007. We, the IEM YES put our educational values to work as citizens of community. We proposed works for replacing existing asbestos roof to metal deck roof c/w rockwool insulation for 3 blocks of single-storey computer room and dormitories for Pure Life Society which was located at Batu 6, Jalan Puchong.

The IEM YES hope to help, at no cost, yet hoping to provide solutions for the communities. Though we are small, working on relatively small project, part of our passion for the organization grows out of a desire to help build and rebuild the underserved communities however possible.


Our goal is not to solve every problem we meet, but rather to inspire others to join the effort through construction of physical attempts.

Hi all! Yup, more photos from a knock-'em-down session over the weekend down South. IEM-UTM and IEM Southern Branch had a bowling session on Sunday, 23rd September, at Skudai Parade, JB.

Trip to Sabah!

Sabah, a Malaysian state located on the northern portion of the island of Borneo. A second largest state in Malaysia after the state of Sarawak which borders with on its south-west. It also borders with the province of East Kalimantan of Indonesia in the south. Sabah used to be a British crown colony known as North Borneo prior to partnership with Federation of Malaya, Sarawak & Singpore to form the Federation of Malaya in 1963. Its state capital is Kota Kinabalu, formerly known as Jesselton. Sabah is known as 'negeri di bawah bayu' which means the land below the wind. This is because of its location being just south of the typhoon prone region around Philippines.


Now, enough of the history about Sabah. Let me blog some activities which IEM YES carried out at Sabah.

Day 1 - At Nelayan!



IEM YES had their wonderful meal at Kampung Nelayan Seafood Restaurant, a lakeside floating restaurant which located within a botanical garden and popular recreational spot which called Bukit Padang. This restaurant shows off authentic traditional Malay architecture and had a stage right in the middle of ti where traditional dances are performed on selected nights for diners. It is truly a splendid place for dinner of course and we enjoyed it!

Next, we get down to business. Meeting was conducted for further discussion on IEM YES.







With some refreshments after meeting was held.





Day 2 - Outing at Pulau Manukan

All work and no play make Jack a dull boy. And so, we set for an outing at Pulau Manukan.




Pulau Manukan shaped as a boomerang with 51 acres, the second largest of the Tunku Abdul Rahman Park.Pulau Manukan has good stretches of beaches on the southern coastline. The best stretch is on the eastern tip of the island. There is a trail system around the island. Just an ideal place for snorkeling, diving and swimming.





The water is clear, it is just an excellent venue for water-skiing and sea sports. The beach however is somewhat rocky and thus, swimmers should exercise some caution. There are coral beds on the eastern and the western reefs and multicolored coral fishes abound here.





Manukan is one of the 5 islands under Tunku Abdul Rahman Park with only 20 minutes by boat from the state capital of Kota Kinabalu City. It offers clear waters and beautiful coral reefs. Shaped like a dolphin, the island is 1 and half kilometers long. Blessed with long stretch of white sandy beach promising hours of sea, sand and fun!!









Pulau Manukan is just a beautiful place which is ideal for a small to medium size group meetings. We also had a solitary time for ourself to watch the beautiful sunset of Borneo.

Yup, there were 2 drives held very recently, just last week in fact! We'll start off with Uniten on 10/9/07, where Engr. Cheong enlightened the 100-odd budding, bubbly young engineers about the G&S section of IEM, and the benefits of getting involved. Below are some snapshots, Monash to follow soon.

And at Monash University the following day, Engr. Nor Hisham managed to squeeze some time out of his busy schedule to address an equally enthusiastic audience. To both Engr. Cheong and Engr. Nor Hisham, many thanks! Not forgetting Mr. Sivadas from Uniten too!
