Electrical Future Seminar

Date : 18th March 2008 (Tuesday)
Venue : Park Royal Hotel,
Kuala Lumpur
Time : 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m.
Speaker : Mr. Peter Wong

In response to demands for a more energy-efficient, greener data center, the seminar will introduce revolutionary enterprise architecture: ‘the Efficient Enterprise.™' 'The Efficient Enterprise integrates power, cooling and management components to work together seamlessly, automatically to drive down operational expenses and give companies more power, more control and more profits. The Efficient Enterprise employs the “4 C’s” to optimise data center efficiency with four principles to ensure a more predictable, waste-free data center environment that save energy, boosts availability and positions companies for future growth. Participants will discover how Efficient Enterprise features a “pay as you grow” modular architecture that allows you to power and cool only what you need and when you need it.

The Beginning of A New Page... The Young Engineers Section (YES) !

New year... New direction... Rebranding of IEM G&S as IEM G&S-YES... and announcing the revelation of IEM G&S-YES' new logo…

We, formerly known as Graduate & Student Section of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM G&S) have rebrand ourselves and concurrently launch our new logo (attached herewith).

In order for us to better reflect the present atmosphere, now we are known as Graduate & Student Section - The Young Engineers Section of The Institution of Engineers, Malaysia (IEM G&S-YES) or in short just Young Engineers Section (YES). Of course we still represent the engineering undergraduates and students as after all they are the FUTURE ENGINEERS though we have rebrand ourselves as Young Engineers Section.

As for our new IEM G&S-YES logo (referring to the attachment), the portrayal...

Reflecting the young engineers vision to reach out to more young engineers, the logo depicts the young, vibrant engineers in positioning ourselves as leaders of tomorrow……not only in engineering field but with analytical and creative mindset, positioning engineers as the leaders of countries and organisations. The colour blue was chosen in view of the ever wide horizon and knowledge the young engineers portray like a piece of blue ocean and sky. And the wheel represents the young engineers willingness to climb up the challenging steps towards success and be leaders of tomorrow…..

Thank you for your support to IEM G&S-YES all this while. Together let us strive towards excellence and success as we go along climbing our own career and corporate ladder. With that we look forward for more active participation of young blood in IEM G&S-YES... IEM G&S-YES is HOT TO GO !!!

    Blogged by Mei Ping

Talk on Introduction to LiDAR and its Engineering and Other Applications

(Jointly organised by IEM G&S-YES & Malaysian Remote Sensing Society)

    DATE : 25th March 2008 (Tuesday)

    TIME : 6.30pm - 8.00pm

VENUE : ISM Conference Hall, 2nd Floor, Bangunan Ingenieur, Lot 60 & 62, Jalan 52/4, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

SPEAKER : Ms. Trudy R Ganendra, Dato’ Nik Nasruddin Mahmood

    SYNOPSIS:

Accurate ground information is essential for most engineering, environmental, natural resources and infrastructural development works. While land survey has been and continues to be the most common method of finding this information, the last few decades have seen a flowering of alternatives and indeed a whole new industry called remote sensing. There are many different types of remote sensing techniques, including aerial photogrammetry, satellite imagery, etc. For this talk, one of the newest and highly usable remote sensing techniques, LiDAR, and its engineering and other applications will be covered. LiDAR has been in use in Malaysia since 1989 and its users have seen many cost, accuracy and speed benefits. The principals of LiDAR and how it can be used effectively by all the professionals will be described during this talk.

    BIODATA OF SPEAKER:

*** Trudy R Ganendra of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd (GDS), a Malaysian-owned high-tech LiDAR survey and mapping service provider, has Masters of Engineering from University of Cambridge and Masters of Science from Imperial College in Environmental Engineering. GDS has been providing accurate and cost efficient maps and mapping products to a broad range of clients since 1991 and has been widely used by developers, planners and designers throughout South East Asia.
*** Dato’ Nik Nasruddin Mahmood, Executive Chairman of Ground Data Solutions Sdn Bhd and was formerly attached to Malaysian Center of Remote Sensing (MACRES) as Director General. He holds M.Sc. (Remote Sensing) from International Institute for Aerospace Surveys and Earth Sciences (The Netherlands) and B. Sc. (Geophysics) from University Malaya.
