PDP versus CPD

After i attended monthly meeting of IEM G&S-YES yesterday, only i get to know that IEM has just implemented PDP against graduate engineers.

Many young engineers nowadays are more aware about IEM and BEM but not the lengthy application to become PE (Professional Engineer) behind. To become an engineer in Malaysia like many other countries, of course after graduated from degree engineering course one should first registered under BEM (Board of Engineers, Malaysia). What's more after that? If you're not member of IEM G&S-YES, perhaps you may not know more about the route to PE.

Recently IEM has just launched PDP which is known as Professional Development Point. Correct me if i'm wrong :) A total of 66 points need to be collected before you take PE. How can one collect points then? It's by attending activities organized by Young Engineers Section like meetings, socials activities or professional development courses. So it's an implementation to encourage graduate young engineers nowadays to join more activities instead of spending most of the time on working. Hey, there are lots of thing to learn outside the world than sitting in the office!

CPD on the other hand known as Continual Professional Development is applicable to those who already taken PE. Concept is the same as PDP. It's just to ensure Professional Engineers continue to develop their knowledge and skills eventhough they are pass to be a PE.

This course is intended for Engineers and Managers who are responsible for writing documents written by others, including e-mails. Partcipants will learn how to produce documents which are concise, cohesive, grammatically accurate and stylistically appropriate .

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Acquire skills to generate and select ideas, to begin free-writing for a first draft.
- Improve in their use of language to produce a clear, concise and accurate piece of writing
- Make a document visually appealing
- Use principles and techniques to write memos, letters and reports that consider the reader

The social portfolio team has made the event a successful one on early February.
Extreme challenge in Skytrex is the toughest of all.
FYI, this new circuit is the latest addition to the park and boasts 21 extreme challenges with some platforms reaching the height of 22 meters.


The challenges are all overcome by the participants.
It was raining but not an obstacle to them at all.
Congratulation, apparently fear is not a factor you guys!

Skytrex Adventure!

IEM Young Engineers' Section proudly brings to you the exciting event in Agricultural Garden, Shah Alam. This brand new activity revitalises the park’s long forgotten attraction as the Malaysia’s first agricultural park (built 1986) and quite possibly the world’s largest at 1290 hectares.



There are 3 different courses which will have you standing, climbing, walking, swinging and zipping as high as 22meters off the ground! A good point to note is that there are several exit points should you find the challenges too much to handle or if there’s an emergency and you need to get out.



BIG THRILL Duration 1.5 to 2 hours
Requirements: At least 1.4 meters. Maximum weight 100kg.
There are 23 challenges with names like ‘Bermuda Triangle’, ‘Happy Hopper’, ‘Wobble Trouble’ and ‘Wild Revenge’ which you may find humourous, that is, until you stand before them. I kid you not, the trail will sure to serve you that fear factor!
