Talk on The Evolution of Mobile Communications: 0G to 4G
It was another record-breaking course organized by IEM Young Engineers Section and IET Younger Members Section (YMS). It was well attended by 26 junior and senior engineers, and based on their feedback, it was a valuable experience and opportunity to learn on the Evolution of Mobile Communication: 0G to 4G
This talk explored the evolution of mobile communication technologies by looking from the historical perspective from 1st generation to 4th Generation and also on future trend of mobile communication
Part 1 –some typical characteristic between 1st generation and 2nd Generation are as below :
1) Analog cellular versus digital cellular
2) Voice Telecom only versus voice and low speed data
3) Outdoor coverage versus seamless indoor and outdoor coverage
4) Distinct from fixed PSTN versus complimentary to fixed PSTN
Part 2- Typical characteristic between 3rd generation and 4th Generation are as below :
1) multi mode versus broadband service
2) evolve service beyond telecommunication versus seamless service provision across heterogeneous network
3) new business model versus improved spectrum efficiency
Part 3-Future trends of mobile communication are all IP based and are in convergent mode where it is a hybrid of different technologies and segment.
